Suitable for professional dancers, or those in full time dance training, aged 18+
Russell Maliphant Company is launching another two-day intensive, following a sold-out weekend in May. Taught by Artistic Director Russell Maliphant, this intensive will be an exploration of ideas and movement that draw on Maliphant’s training in dance and bodywork, particularly as a practitioner of the Rolfing method of Structural Integration.
Over the course of the intensive, Maliphant will introduce ideas and research findings which impact the practical world of movement, in particular principles and models of Fascia, Tensegrity, and Structural Integration, which can enhance health
and longevity in physical practice. With inherent qualities, these ideas will be explored in relation to lines of connection, co-ordination, speed, breath, and quality of movement.
An emphasis will be given to deepening awareness, proprioception and refinement alongside releasing ‘holding patterns’ and cultivating an ever-growing body perception.
The Russell Maliphant Studio, 93A Scrubs Lane, London NW10 6QU.
The studio is situated on Scrubs Lane, a 10-minute walk from Willesden Junction station (Bakerloo and London Overground). The 220 bus from Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush stops outside the studio.

About Russell Maliphant and Russell Maliphant Company
Maliphant’s work is noted for its sculptural qualities and flow of movement. His initial idiom has a foundation in classical dance and he has explored contemporary movement for more than 30 years. He integrates qualities informed by his studies in
Tai Chi, yoga, capoeira and contact improvisation in his choreographies, creating his own particular artistic language through the interaction with light and music. He qualified as a practitioner of the Rolfing method of Structural Integration in 1994
and has practised yoga since 1988.
Russell Maliphant Company was established in 1996 as the framework for Maliphant to initiate productions and to work with his own ensemble of dancers. Since that time, he has received two Olivier awards, three South Bank Show awards and three Critics’ Circle National Dance awards for best modern choreography, among many other national and international awards and nominations. Maliphant is an Associate Artist with Sadler’s Wells and received an Honorary Doctorate from Plymouth University in 2011. He is an artistic researcher in dance with Canterbury Christ Church University.
In April 2018, the Russell Maliphant Company became one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations. This brings an exciting new chapter to the companies’ history, becoming Company in Residence at DanceEast, Ipswich.
