FOCUS with EncoreEast - LIVE Performance
EncoreEast and Russell Maliphant Dance Company present Focus.
A unique evening of film, conversation and the premier of Focus, a production created by Alethia Antonia, Edd Arnold (RMDC dancers) and EncoreEast, the Ipswich-based company of mature dancers. Inspired by Maliphant’s production Silent Lines, performed at and live streamed from DanceEast on Wednesday 3 November 2021 at 7.30pm.
This performance marks the culmination of a creative co-designed project funded by Arts Council England and Russell Maliphant Dance Company. A collaboration that included open on-line workshops - attracting participants from across the world, rehearsals on zoom, and a more traditional in person rehearsal period.
Running alongside the creation of Focus, RMDC has been investigating how Maliphant’s approach has enabled the dancers’ development and how a distributed leadership approach has enabled the development of EncoreEast as a company.
The evening will begin with a conversation discussing the project and ideas of ‘beauty of art’ and community practice. Followed by a short film of the making of Focus, and finishing with the live performance from the outstanding company members of EncoreEast.
Hosted at DanceEast in Ipswich, audience members can book tickets to attend the performance in person, or via an online live stream. See more details on the DanceEast website via the ‘Book here’ button below!

Silent Lines was created in 2019 and supported by Arts Council England, DanceEast, Cockayne, The London Community Foundation, Ipswich Borough Council, and Lancaster Arts. The piece was co-produced by Sadler’s Wells It was inspired by Maliphant’s research and explorations in movement and anatomy to create rich and resonant aesthetics for the stage using a blend of music, movement, animated video projection, and lighting. Drawing on methodologies from a variety of movement disciplines and setting the movement within a world of animated light and atmospheric sound, Silent Lines explores the endless web of connections we encompass and embody. The film is currently available on Marquee TV.
